Greater Minnesota Resilient Housing Project

Building capacity to build differently

The Greater Minnesota Resilient Housing Project is focused on co-creating housing solutions across the state by working across diverse geographies and sectors. Minnesota’s housing challenges are truly wicked, no single sector or discipline can solve all the design, financing, political, policy, and construction issues that need to be considered.  One thing that nearly all communities across the state share is a shortage of quality affordable housing.

Goals

The goal of this project is simple.  We seek to develop resilient housing solutions through community partnerships and we seek to make the solutions we develop available to other communities across the state.  The term “resilient” refers to the performance of our housing solutions.  Each community has its own unique assets and issues.  Our project seeks to leverage these assets and address these issues through the production of housing to improve the overall health of communities.  We will identify performance metrics that are community specific as well as metrics that apply universally across the state.  The performance of our solutions will be measured against these metrics.

Research

An interdisciplinary research team of graduate students at the University of Minnesota compiled a collection of research documents on topics such as building code, home affordability, and housing policy. View the work on the GMRHP research page.
